gPhone not a Phone, but an OS?

From the gPhone "will be here in two weeks (http://technologyexpert.blogspot.com/2007/08/here-comes-gphone-rumor-says.html)" to "where the heck is it" after nearly two months, we now hear rumors that the phone isn't a phone at all, but an operating system. The OS would apparently be open-source Linux-based and aimed to compete with Symbian and Windows Mobile.
