i have a big problem. i and my brother are administrators in the windows xp professional. he always needs to be an administrator or else he complains to dad. i have NTFS formatted hdds but i can't stop him resetting my password from user accounts. when he is pissed off with me he does it cos he is an admin. generally what i want is: to stop other administrators resetting/changing another administrator's (my) password. i had a look in computer management and local security policy but couldn't find an option to do that. are there any geek who knows what to do?

yes use power toys to hide your account from seen in control panel,so he wont see it and switch to clasic log on insrtead of welcome screen.i dont recal the shortcut keyboard combination to switch while your log on to classic ,someone reminde me please.

i am very grateful for the reply fares :)
:$ i could only find in powertoys, to hide my accoount from the welcome screen. also even i hide myself in the cpl, damn he will right click 'my computer' and click 'manage' and go to computer management. (damn! he know all this shit.) and he will go to users & accounts and then reset my password. shit eh? |
since you are an admin change his account type to a lmited user or try gpedit to restrict him from reseting your password,or you could go to controluser password and enable the backup admin and use and he wont know that it is you.

ha ha :D
fares, pls be aware that by computer mangement any other admin can reset the password of the rea/original Administrator account. but as you said if i change his account to a limited account for sure he cannot do anything. but the thing is as i said very first he needs admin account or else he screams. well, only thing i wasn't sure about your reply was about "gpedit". i dunno what is it :o |
I understand you have a BIG problem....your brother, donīt change his privileges as an admin...change your brother and all your problems will be gone :D :D :D

hmmm, this will probably be my final post under this thread as i don't see any satisfied answerz for my question. but still i believe this thread is good to discuss regarding the topic, so that everybody could learn. i am a high school student, and reading your post i also realised that i am so into computers (too much) which will affect my studies :o tks for the post which made me realize as so then i will not go outta track :)
i wanted the ultimate security for Windows 2000/XP and that's why i made up an enemy-brother to create a real atmosphere. tks for all the members who replied to this thread. more ideas are still welcome. |
