i have a windows XP Pro running everything just d way i want 4 now :D
my problem is that my firewall eval license (E-trust firewall) will terminate soon :(:( i was thinkin about install ISA2000 but it will need a Server system, right? ;) so, this is what i thought, but i'm not sure if it will work:~ when u run "NTSwitch" it warns u that a Pro system will became a Whistler Server and that it can never be changed back again to Pro (i dont want it anyway ;) ) but now... will it upgrade my Whistler system?? and will it work?  i'm just curious why doesnt a WinXP Pro cant be upgraded to a server? does it need some 'Libraries pack's' and/or applications that Pro doesnt have? (this is quit obvious, but will they work once installed over d Pro system...) thx much all :D cheers :) huh... just realised that i was in d wrong forum, this was intended in support section :( mods, please move it... sorry -_- Last edited by nnuxx at Sep 26 2002, 02:11 AM |
It does not upgrade your PRO it just changes the identifiers for the OS. Why not just run Z/A or something like that...ISA sux IMHO..bloated and there are much better.

i didnt xplained myself good enough, sorry :)
i meant use ntswitch to change system to identify as a server, n then run .NET server setup so it will upgrade ;) any opinions r welcome :D Last edited by nnuxx at Sep 26 2002, 02:50 AM |

nuxx,
Normaly I would suggest using microsoft software in every instance possible. But moving to ISA server??? Please don't! I've had some experience on that (supposed) firewall, and I don't like it one bit. It is buggy, hard to configure, and it refuses to handle VPN and ADSL modems in a good manner. I know there isn't much info if the firewall is hacked, and mine is only an opinion, but I would suggest any other fw/proxy software, as long as it's not ISA server. I know this doesn't help, but I had to tell you . . . |
that's exactly what i needed, my friend ;)
i only installed ISA once, n just to play round with it a bit  , i liked some of d features like it's reports, but disliked some more of them  the principal factor that causes my reluntant with it is that it is from M$ (usually buggy <_< ), n it uses about 128Mb of RAM alone just to run it  currently i dont have any more PC where i can install and configure it to do all i need to :( that's why i asked, i nedded to get some honest (and valid)opinions about it ;) i personally like Kerio Winroute Firewall, and when version 5 cames final will probably be my choice, but till then i will need to install something else, cause my Firewall license will end next month. :D thx guys :) cheers |
