I set up ICS with an XP Pro as the Host and a Win98 as a client. The setup is with a crossover cable PC to PC, with the host connected to a cable modem.

The two machines can share files no problem and the WinXP machine can surf, but the Win98 client can't surf the net. Its IP address is set for DHCP, and acquires a lease without problems, always allowing for sharing of files, but just can't surf.

Anyone come across this. Any ideas besides a reformat?

hmmm, ICS, sounds like you didn't specify the gatway, under TCP/IP, i forget exactly where it is in the network config, been too long since i've even looked at a win9x box, specify the gateway as the ip of the nic on the other end of the cross over cable, ICS normally uses 192.168.0.* ip addresses, so it's probably 192.168.0.1 but i could be wrong, but i think your problem is not specifying the gateway, i had similar problems with mine, either that or the DNS servers need to be specified

Or you may need to go into your control panel and open network connections right click on local area connection go down to properties and then advanced and then to ICS and allow ICS on the XP box

Thanks gents, it's been a while since the post. But I had the gateway and all. Believe it or not, the problem was a corrupt Content Advisor file that stopped all Internet access. So I had to find the file, rename it, and whoolaa! I spent a few hours monkeying around with all kinds of stuff, but it all works now...

Thanks for your help, folks. Keep up the great work.
