Hello all.. I am trying to make backups of my important programs and games. Well upon making an iso of a game, it cant read it... So would possibly a bin image correct my problem? If so, what program can I use to make it?

Yerp! Clone CD would be the best option in this case however, you may also have hardware that is not able to copy certain CDs. cdfreaks.com has many forums where I'm sure you can learn more.

Hi Folks, actually the best "Images" of CD's are .ISO images. .BIN images are generally 10-20% larger in size. If making an .ISO image does not work, one main reason is the Source CD likely has been modified from "Standard". Most of these "Modifications" are put in place for Copyright reasons. There are Proggies around that attempt to bypass such "Mods", but that falls into the realm of Hacking and Cracking, which we do not discuss on these forums.... :D :rolleyes: :D

Thanks Guys! If I cant figure it out.. I guess I will just have to take good care of my original cd's ;)

I have had some trouble sometimes when making an ISO it won't be Readable........

BUT if I take that Same ISO image, and open winISO 5.3 and "convert" the ISO to an ISO, it will FIX the Image, and if I burn it again, it will be Good...

I still haven't figured out what goes wrong when I make an Image, the files are all there, but after burned, it will say "disk not readable", but after converting, it is fine when I burn another copy....

I have tried different Image makers,(EZcd Crusher, VOB, and others), and most times, images are OK, but recently, I have had more and more needing to be "converted"....
so now I just run a convert on Every one I do and all is OK now....
winISO 5.3 is a Very good program, and can convert Bin files to ISO also....

Some makers deliberatley place different errors at the CDs that are sold. Theese errors are supposed to stop illegal copying of the media. Error - meaning that they in some way do not follow the different standards, f eks they can emulate nonreadable sectors in the CDs filesystem.
Sometimes this prevents the user from making an ISO-image as an ISO strictly follow the rules. Other ways incl the bin/cue tries to catch the whole CD as is sector per sector, think about it as Ghost or another harddrive imageutil making an image incl botsector, filesystem and so on of a harddrive, thus including the errors. That's also why it's bigger. Different "errors" demands different methods to backup.
It's a good feeling having a reliable copy put somewhere. In fact I put my original CAD-stuff at the bank's safety-box and at home I only keep my copy... (Yes, a little overkill maybe.)
Then about really expensive stuff, it should be no problem to get a new copy from the maker in case your dog chewed it or something. You have payed for the license, not the media, and should be able to get it replace for a small fee.
