Hi all
I installed Winxp first in C Drive. i need to install Win ME in D Drive..i had only one option of installing Win ME with the Win Me Boot Floppy..after installation the system is booting in Win Me only..then i had to put the xp CD and tried to install Xp from ME..and after the first reboot i can see the installed XP aling with ME and xp setup ..in the OS Selection. then i logged in to ME and edited boot.ini and removed the XP Setup and set the time out from 5 to 30.

Is there anyother way to install ME after installing XP becaise this way of installing sucks

Thanks in advance

There is only the correct way, and that is to install the older OS first. M E???

Well the only way that works for is like this. Well I reformated all hard drives. I installed WinXP Pro. Corp. SP1 Final First on drive C. Then I install WinMe right after that. By the way my WinMe is bootable so I just stick it in and install. But you can of course use the winme disk. I always keep one just in case.

Then once WinMe is installed I restart my computer and then I see WinMe and WinXP are both installed and are working. WinXP is the first choice. They say install WinMe first then WinXP but that never works for me becuase WinXP simiply kills WinMe every single time no matter what. Just rember both OS are using Fat32 and not ntfs. :) It works for me everytime without one single problem. Last time I reformated was about 6 months ago. Since I dual boot if winxp ever fucks up then i can just delete it completey without loosing any files and reinstall from WinMe.

later,
will

As Windows 2000/XP supports dual boot of operating systems, I would always recommend to install those OSes later. I mean if you wanna have ME and XP, then install ME in Drive C: and then XP in drive D: because this always works. Once you properly install ME in C: restart the computer and boot from XP CD. follow the steps and choose the drive D: or run the XP CD under ME and run the setup, choose New Installation and continue the steps. That much Simple :D

Always Install the dumbest OS first (or the most compatible last, depending on your outlook :)). It will prevent you from screwing up later on.

DOS based windows install overwrite the boot sector, so the NT boot loader is not loaded.
To fix the boot sector, reinstall XP. Select the repair option, and if you have no emergency disk, say no, and deselect all options, but the boot sector
It should detect the Win ME installation aswell and add it to the boot.ini, but if not, you can add it manually.
You can check the M$ kb article Q153762, and Q217210 for more info.
Me, 98 etc are not multiboot aware
