Why, after installing the SP1 betas and now the final, does my link for Windows Update launch a login box attempting to connect to IP address 131.107.85.110?

Why doesn't it take me to the regular update site?

Not to worry, it's probably just a site that examines your system with their javascript "sneaker-peeker" to see if you're one of those nasty pirate kinda guys.

You aren't..........are you????

Gee, I would hope not.

Just try this :

Here is what you need to do

open regedit (from the run command)

Browse to the following keys:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Help_Menu_URLs]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\InstallInfo\DownloadSiteURL]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\JITInfo\DownloadSiteURL]

Change the value to: /http://windowsupdate.com

That will do the trick

Edit:
Remove live link
