Hot on the heels of blocking access to Google the Chinese government has now filtered domestic access to Alta Vista.
There is shortly to be a Congress of the Chinese Communist Party, which China watchers believe has much to do with the present crackdown of net users. Internet cafes have been closed and many Western news agencies such as the BBC have had access filtered by the Beijing politburo. Yahoo has recently signed an agreement which more or less panders up to what the Chinese government tells it to do.
