Working Firewall
Anyone found a working firewall for Vista yet?
I realize the built in has outbound protection, but once turned on is 100% rules based. A hastle to get working right and no warnings when something tries to call out. I like Vista and all and would like to continue to run it, but no way until I can find a firewall I have a little more control over. Thanks |
For anyone looking for apps to try in Vista, the Windows Live OneCare beta is now out for

i was just gonna suggest this one, Rod!

HotRod, still using Vista Firewall Control as per your suggestion and working great! :)

It does seem to do what it claims.
I like to run seperate FW...AV...Spyware programs. Hate the suites so have to find/hunt things that work. Any one else interested here's link _http://www.sphinx-soft.com/Vista/index.html |
It works well, but is pricey. I think it's limited to 3 pc's. I've got 4 or 5 I play around with at home and that makes it too expensive.

Have you checked out the free copy to see if it does what needed?

Yep. TrendMicro PC-cillin 15.3 works great with Vista. This is an av scanner with firewall and antispam. Nice piece of software.
Limited to 3 installations per purchase, but cheaper than MS and is more transparent, easily configurable the way you like it. |

Seems that One Care has problems. See the above link. Trend Micro Pc-cillin Internet Security 15.3 works with Vista. Not bad software program according to my trial installation. |
Even if you don't like suites,I think that Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 is worth a try on Vista.....:)
