webserver?
What would it require for me to setup a webserver for personal use? What I mainly want to do is just setup a windows server then mess around with it to see what it is like. It can be ran locally (if at all possible) since my isp does not allow servers to be ran.
I would like to have php enabled on it. And mysql eventually but my experience with setting those two things up are not the best as the one time I attempted it mysql never did work right. And what would the system requirements need to be for something like this? I'm assuming it doesn't need to be anything too powerful. Thanks |
do a google for xammp
comes with apache, mysql, php, a mail server, ftp server, you can disable the anyones you dont want, and plus it comes with an SSL cert! for the localhost. xammp is what I use and it works perfect! :) I run a server on an OLD amd 1900 and it works perfect, no slow downs at all. It runs very well! |
yeah I would just set up apache, its quite simple you can just get the documentation from the apache website.
another option is IIS, its windows version of an http server, comes with xp pro. the hardest part might be setting up your router/firewall if your behind one, but thats pretty easy too. just port forward port 80 to your IP address. you have to do this so that other people can type in your IP address and see your webpage and not just go to your router. rad |
I'm going to play with xammp on my server box here.. very cool indeed.
