Windows Vista build 5456 is released to testers
Hi
With reference to Windows Vista build 5456, according to Alpine, we can use keys after build 5381 and above to install and activate this new build. I'm downloading this at present and would like to know that once activated, what is the evaluation period for this build? Is it the same as the BETA2 public release (180 days ... I think) after activation and if not, what is it? Regards Brave01Heart |
The new release, like Beta2 is lasting "for a long while",
if you run winver, it will tell you : Evaluation copy, Expires 01.06.2007 (that is ofcourse if you activate it). |
Hi BC
Thanks for your response. As I said in post, Alpine reckons that we can use keys after build 5384 to install AND activate build 5456? I certainly hope so. Can you confirm this BC? I started downloading this morning and I've just come in from work at midnight and I'm still downloading ...... downloading at a rate of 0KB/s and 9.9KB/s. :( I've never known it be so sloooow I guess there must be lots of users downloading. I'll keep it going overnight and have another rethink in the morning. Regards Brave01Heart |
Yes,
you can use your Beta2 keys to do either a fresh install or an upgrade (if you have enough free HD space, 10GB+ is needed), and to activate this build, just like what MS told you in your e-mail. Since this is a internal release for testers, not a public release, the pressure on MS servers should not be lasting that long as it did with the public release. |
Many thanks for your response BC. :)
It's comforting to know that once I complete downloading Vista 5456, I will be able to install and activate it using my BETA2 keys. This present build (beta2) is ok but I have a problem with MP11 not playing it's own default music, my MP3's or any music CD's through it (no sound), but Media Center does, so I'm hoping that Vista 5456 will sort this out for me and if it does, then I will probably keep it installed as my main O/S.
