Problem with Motorola branded Shaw Digital Box
 

Context : My parents subscribe to shaw digital for tv; the box can also hold tv shows on its drive for safe keeping, able to burn off, or download via firewire to computer. (the transport files are HUGE keep-in-mind.

My question is thus: The error it gives me when I redownload the firmware (Power + Select > turn off set > turn set on > Wait for set to light up and Erase Firmware (EF) to appear).

I'm so ready to just build my parents a media computer, so they can strap this box that doesn't work.. my parents already replaced it once, and it only needed a new drive.

Also. what or how can I keep the box cool; you can probably cook runny eggs on it. The set is extremely hot, the heat is coming from the back of the set, I think its a air issue, its not cramped on top or on the sides.. but its a little stuff in the back.
