Windows Media Player 11.0.5358.4826 BETA

Got Windows Media Player 11 BETA in hands yesterday and it really is great compared to v10. Not just GUI.

Improvements I noticed for my interest were:

Ripping Audio CDs to Windows Media Audio 10 Professional
New Windows Media Audio 9.2 codec
ID3 Tags are now realiably/permenantly written to the actual file (regardless of where your rip folder is)

Tip of the day:
Google for shooter468

After adding music to library if you see the same album listed multiple times like this:

Then you should select all the files, right click, go to Advanced Tag Editor, tick the Album Artist checkBox and press OK. The meta tags will be updated. Reopen WMP 11.

It should look correctly now.

The Good
Writes ID3 tags to the physical file regardless where the rip folder is
Windows Media Audio 10 Professional codec
Windows Media Audio 9.2 codec
Expanded tile view
Live search
Very responsive media library

The Bad
Aggressively replaces my high quality Folder.jpg with a low res Folder.jpg
Does not notify the user when ID3 tag writing fails
Does not let remove monitor folders (only ignore)

I wonder if there is a way to edit the registry to fix these problems?
Until I saw these I was all set to install...

After you pointed it out, user needs, I glanced through:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\P references
I think I gotta spend more time there in registry to hunt down where the folders are stored.

Serious bugs/issues MS has to fix in WMP11:

Artwork doesn't save properly

Replaces custom Folder.jpg

"Rearrange music in rip music folder" in WMP11 vs "Keep iTunes music folder organized"

WMP11 is nice. My only grudge still is that it replaces my Folder.jpg no matter what setting I have applied. It doesn't care if the Folder.jpg is Read-Only!

I have edited my post above so you can check out how WMP11 is aggressive replacing the Folder.jpg
