Windows could not load installer for Battery

Hey Guys,

I recently wiped the Windows XP Home installation that came with the laptop. Then I formatted the hard disk and installed Windows XP Pro with SP2. Since then I am missing the Battery Icon in the Taskbar. Windows XP Pro could not find battery drivers for the laptop.

In Device Manager it comes up as Unknown Battery.

I have gone through the DELL Driver CDs but couldn't find any specific drivers for batteries.

Has anybody had the same problem before? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
McoreD

Did you try removing the batteries, and re-inserting them?

I have never heard of drivers for batteries, man...

Hey wase4711, I just tried removing the battery and re-inserting but the problem still exists. I am trying the new Chipset drivers and BIOS updates from http://support.dell.com/support/down...os=WW1&osl=EN#

Really a weird problem XP not detecting the battery.

well, I am sure you tried the Control Panel/Power Options as well..there is usually an Advanced tab in there that asks if you want the battery icon to appear in the taskbar...

Hey wase4711, "Upgraded" using a Windows XP with SP2 and February 2006 Hotfixes CD and it detected the Batteries. Basically the previous Windows installation thought the laptop was always on AC Power. So removing plug didn't make any difference.

Thanks for your input, it's really appreciated.

Cheers,

Just when taking the screenshot, I noticed the Battery was still 64% [Charging]. Four hours earlier, I remember, it was 63% [Charging]. Any idea why that is? Is the battery dying?

if its a real old battery, it might not hold a charge anymore...try discharging it completely, then charge it up for 24 hours and see what happens...

Reinstalling Windows XP SP2 helped me jaykenobi. :)
