system idle process System
I'm sure this is the culprit as to why I can't burn dvd's anymore, but I'm not sure what to do about it.
Monday I was able to burn dvd's but since then I cannot, the computer crashes while trying to burn them. I looked at task manager today and the system idle process (user: system) is taking 99 of the cpu and the hd light on the front of the computer is a constant red. anyone know what to do? |
Nope. But I had a similar problem and ran all the whole schmere of Registry cleaners, and etc.
A buddy had his pc crap out on him and found Spyware Doctor (PC Tools) and it found a virus that regenerates itself, even after his AV program killed it. Claims it cured his problems. The horse is already out of the barn, but this is when Acronis True Image shows it's colors. I've moved over to Registry Medic 4.0 and find it "pretty cool". Good luck. |
did you recently upgrade either Nero or Roxio?
that caused me the same problem... |
wase, nope I'm the worst person at updating stuff. i did install roxio as before the re-format last month nero kept crashing during a burn. but while I was typing this, this might have been going on before the re-format since nero was crashing the computer and at the time I just thought it was nero and not something wrong.
i ran memtest on all the total memory (3 sticks, 2x256mb, 1x512mb), but over the weekend I might try running on each stick seperately. |
ok well finally got around to running memtest on each stick of memory seperatly and one stick came up with errors.
so far it is running good without any problems and still have plenty of memory (768mb). |

IDLE being the keyword. That means your CPU is not hardly being used at all. You want it to be 99. lol You say you hard drve is showing activity lite. It could be its about to die... oh i see problem fixed? still activity lite? if so it could be its werid wrong....i weired mine wrong the first time so it would be on constantly...switch pins and worked fine :) |
well its partially fixed. the hard drive light isn't constantly on anymore, but i still can't burn dvd's and about every other day when I start my computer (right after it gets into Windows) it says "Your computer has recovered from a seriour error". I figure that my other stick of memory has went bad too but haven't had time to test it.
And what drives me up the wall is the the memory company won't answer my emails so until they answer an email they aren't getting my memory to be replaced cause I don't trust them. maybe this weekend I'll have some time to test the other stick. |
Check the event viewer and see if you can get a hint as to what error is showing just before the DVD error happens.
