I'm wondering if anyone could suggest how much of a gain I could get by upgrading to a new motherboard and PC 2700 DDR.
I currently have an XP1800+ with 512meg pc133 on an Epox 8KTA3L+

This article compares various motherboards using KT133A, KT266A and KT333 chipsets.

Check the benchmarks. Keeping the same CPU and moving from PC133 to PC2700 (333Mhz) would improve the performance by around 10 - 25%.

ddr shld be faster right? since it uses 2/clck cycles....
hence twice....the speed of sdram.

Hi Raid

That's right, and the memory benchmarks in that article indeed show it. But the OVERALL computer performance depends in much more than memory performance...

I agree with that HamsterX. More factors involved.

Have a problem? Get a hamster. How about a ferret?!

Thanks guys for the input , having checked out some of those comparisons , it seems there is nowhere near the improvement I might have expected , MP3 encoding virtually none , and Video encoding about 25%
I think I will make do until the next BIG breakthrough in processor speeds.
