ID to release Quake III source code
 

Modders Quaking in their boots

AT QUAKECON id head honcho John Carmack said in his keynote address that the Quake III engine, which powered many of the last generation of first person shooters, is to be released as source code for anyone who wants it.


id has done this before with the source code of their previous engines, providing that which they no longer have any use for to eager amateur teams of developers whom we have no doubt will put the extra functionality that they have with source code over simple mod tools to good use. Viva la free stuff!
