Hello,
I just buy a new UPS and I want to know how many peoples are running there pc with a UPS ? And if this really reliable ? This is mine: ![]() Thanks for your comments |
I am not currently and wish I was for the simple fact that my electricity here likes to blink off for a microsecond now and then for no good reason just enough to reset everything. I do however use a very high rated surge arrest. An UPS is always an excellent idea even for the home user if it's in you buget.

I have one because, like mciwd, I live in an area that must have purchased its equipment just before Noah set sail. There are frequent, very short, outages.
The UPS has worked flawlessly for about 2 years. When the power dips, you can't evev spot it on the monitor. I have CPU, Monitor, and Modem fed of the UPS. when this one gives up the ghost, I will hurry out to get another one. |
we have one.
I think the cheapest model. It only gives like 15minutes of power. The 2 times its been needed, it worked fine. :). At the time, the monitor/computer and a lamp was hooked up to the battery. The monitor and lamp was kinda flickering but it gave me enough time to power down the system and stuff. The power hasnt been off since we got cable, so now its monitor/computer/cable modem. I want the power to go out now, because I remember reading somwhere that when they're power in they're neighborhood went off...he got a lot of extra pseed on his cable modem. I wanna see how much bandwidth I should have if noone else is on :D. Anywhoooooooooooooo. To answer ur question. Yes. It works. :). |
Yes, Bads, I have one too @ home and @ work - they work great during the brownouts (rolling power fluctuations) that are pretty common in my area. :)

i got one but haven't hooked it up yet.

Good to hear you got one Bads, had mine for about 2 years and can't even notice the difference when the power goes out.
Does anyone know if it would just blow the UPS if a surge/lightening strike came down the line or would it pass through the UPS into the pc and blow both? Greetz, da Wizard |
Like JD I have 1 @Work, but also one @Home. With even the slightest dip in voltage, my system would reset, and a lot of open files would get damaged. Well, no more!
@da Wizard: It would only blowup your UPS. That one of the reasons UPS-ses were invented. The alternating current that comes out off the socket will be converted to direct current, and then converted back to alternating current. Cheers! |
Thanks all for yor excellent comments,
I hope to receive mine this week from insight  |
I just install my ups today ;)
But xp don't find any driver for it :o I have a yellow flag under battery :( |
