Speed of CPU's

Alright, this should be an interesting post, just dont flame me! :)

I have noticed that the Intel Dual Core CPU is pretty much half price of the AMD Dual core, why is that? Also do the AMD's preform as to the # they are, like a 4800 would be say equal to 4.8Ghz or is it just a # that AMD came up with? I know a while ago it was true that it was equal to the #, but is it still the case now? What CPU should I get for Gaming?

I know that GPU's make a difference as well as Ram, I got a Gig of PC3500, and a Fx5900 (flashed bios to fx5950 128mb ram)....

Dual Core AMD will theoretically be faster than the Intel solution for certain things and vice versa.

As far as the AMD naming convention, yes and no. Yes, they used to be rated the speed. No, they aren't rated that way anymore (Intel adopted a similarly new naming convention). AMD labels them as the speed which corresponds to the speed at which the CPU would run when compared to other CPUs (read: Intel).

AMD CPUs are faster for gaming at this moment.
