Compaq modem problem
 

I swore Id never get a compaq but I was given a presario 12XL325 notebook and installed xp on it and everything works fine but the dialup modem cant get a dial tone. Diagnostics says the modem is fine. Anyone know anything about these things?

Oh and the phone line works ok

Heres another update. I bought a 3com pcmcia modem and still no dial tone.

Never get a Compaq, Even if it was given to you :)

When you said the phone line works, are you talking about the ext off the modem?

Do you use AOL?

I have a friend at work that wants me to work on his system, because he is having the same problem and he uses AOL.

The main phone line works when the phone is plugged in. The modem will dial when set not to wait for a dial tone.

Got it working now. Slowwwwwww! Lol!

What fixed the problem?

Had it dialing without waiting for a dial tone and it just finally worked after several redials

Lol! Got the laptop hooked wireless to comcast now. All is well
