IDE and SATA in same computer?
Can you use SATA and IDE Harddrives in the same computer setup? I heard from somewhere that you can't do it, but I just wanted to ask the experts here there opinion, because I dont wanna buy a SATA HD and have to take both my IDE HD's out! :) Do they make SATA CDroms and stuff?
~PCT edit: alright found the answer to my question on ocforums, and was wondering because I couldn't find the answer anywhere else, are you still limited to 4 devices total? or is it like another bus, and can have as much as you want till you can't put no more? :) |
Depending on your what controller you are using you can have SATA and IDE in the same computer.

You can definitely mix IDE and SATA drives. In one computer I have a 200 GIG seagate, An 80 GIG western Dig and A 60 GIG IBM hard drive. On top of that I have an external 250 GIG Western Digital USB 2.0 Hard drive hooked up...all at one time.
You can have 4 IDE and 2 SATA drives at once running as single drives. You can even run more off your Raid controllers if you have room, when you have many drives you run the risk of incompatibilities. You can add an accelleratorpp card and and add even more IDE devices. IDE devices can be hard drives or optican drives. THis assumes that your mobo and Chip Set supports Wwhat you want to do. |
I have 8 ide's and two SATA opticals in my system thats all that will run without using add-in cards, they all run fine and dandy.
