external hd case
ok, i've got 2 60gb just laying around not being used for anything and I want one to be in an external case so it will be easier to transfer stuff from my laptop to my desktop.
i've looked and looked at them, but i have one question. the ones made for a 3.5" disk have just enough room for the disk and nothing else. the 5.25" ones have a small fan in them. Would it be better on the drive to get the 5.25" one so that the hd gets some air or will the 3.5" do? Thanks. |
My personal preference are the larger ones with the fan in them, mainly because they can take external burners as well if the need arises :)

The 3.5" has a aluminium case which gets very hot, as it hugs the hard drive, I tend to use it for only a couple of hours at a time. The 5.25" is great because as DoG says it has a dual purpose - hard drive/dvd writer, plus it has a fan. The 3.5" is a lot smaller than the 5.25" so its easier to carry around |
I am using one of the 3.5 with a cooling fan inside. As shown here:
http://www.ultraproducts.com/product_info.php?cPath=33&products_id=249 It does not seem to run too hot, although I only use it when needed as. It now contains a 200gig drive. I was in TigerDirect and saw it and figured why not. For With me I figured if I wanted another external device as a burner, I would just get another external case for that. Thanks Dudelive |
