Microsoft Exchange 2003?

I want to run an email server on my network which is hopefully integrated into Outlook and has webmail to access when away from the pcs.

It also needs to automatically give new users an account as in username@domain.com

I have installed Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Exchange 2003 to do this but am having some problems.
The domain I used for the network is 16pentlandclose.com. Do I have to buy this domain in order to be able to get email through it or could I make the computer use the direct ip address instead when sending and recieving emails.

I tried sending an email to a user using the direct ip address and no-ip domain but it didn't work
I can't send emails out either as this also gives an error. When I check the mmc snap-in it says the pop service and smtp service are stopped but when I try to start them I get an error and it tells me to check the event log but I cannot find any errors relating to that.

Also when logging into the webmail it wouldn't accept my login until I unticked the box in IIS saying use windows authentication which was what I was using but I was able to log in with it unticked??

Can someone please help me with this.

Thanks
Robin

The smtp service is now started but the pop3 service is still stopped and refuses to start

Any ideas?

Thanks

Whenever I send an email to the account I get an email back saying:

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

Robin,

You have the dns set up right as in the MX records?

Hello

Yes
Have sorted it out now. The exchange pop3 service was stopped in services

Thanks anyway

P.S. now I have another small problem - I can post to the NNTP server with the nntp virtual server service disabled but when I enable it I can no longer post to the server. I need the service enabled to be able to pull posts from the server.

Any ideas? Plus I need to create a very restricted user group for direct remote desktop access to access their email that way too plus hopefully a way for it to automatically populate outlook with the settings without them having to set it up manually.

Thanks
Robin

Have now got this problem sorted too

Well kind of, I changed the path of the virtual directory in the nntp service from being the Internet Newsgroups directory and now both work although news doesn't replicate between the nntp server and web based nntp and I think it is supposed to
