How to get rid of the Printer Balloon?
1 Attachment(s)
Hello All,
I noticed recently, that for some reason, any time I send a job to the printer, the system tray will display the printer icon, which is normal, but will now display this annoying balloon saying that the job is being sent to the printer. Usually once the job is printing, the printer icon will disappear, which again is normal, but now it will remain on the page until I "X" out of the balloon or click on a window to change focus - then it will disappear... I have included an attachment as to what it looks like. I have not updated any printer drivers or anything. This is happening with all programs. Is there a way for me to rid myself of the pesky balloon? TIA, -SlickVic78 |

Hello JacKDynne & war59312,
Thanks for the help. I added EnableBalloonTips to the registry and things seem to be working the way it was before. I just find it funny that all of a sudden that would happen... Does this apply to every program that tries to pop up a balloon? All I really care about is killing the printing balloon. Thanks, -SlickVic78 |
Hi
Is it supposed to be a blank in there?!: "...osoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\..." |
Hey unicorn,
I believe that is just the way this forum is displaying long paths. I have encountered this in a another post when I tried to display a path in the registry to see that the forum adds a space within. There is no space in the path. -SlickVic78 |
Ok, I couldn't believe there should be a space in the path. I guess this means that we should put long expressions inside "code"-tags then.
Thank you for pinpointing the problem. |
Yea did not notice. :(

Hello All,
Well it appears that the solution of adding the registry value wasn't the full fix for the issue I was having. The balloon stopped, but the printer icon remained in the system tray. There was a setting I needed to change after upgrading to SP2... If you go to your Printer and Faxes configuration window (where you see a list of installed printers), then within that window go to FILE/SERVER PROPERTIES, then click on the Advanced tab, there is a setting there that needs to change. All you need to do is uncheck the "Show informational notifications for network printers". Once this change is made, everything went back to normal. The printer icon appears when printing starts and then printer icon in the system tray will then go away. I have my printer hooked up to my server so that my entire household could gain access to it. So after making that change, all was working fine. Funny how some of the other computers in my house that have SP2 still have this setting checked, and do not get the balloon... Odd, but it is now fixed. -SlickVic78 |
That setting does not even exist on my computer. lol
