i'm building a new computer to either use when i go to my moms house on the weekends or to sell, i haven't decided which one to do yet. either way i don't want to spend much over $100 on the cpu.

so i've narrowed it down to 2 choices: celeron D 2.8Ghz or a P4 2.4Ghz with 1MB cache.

now if i keep it, i won't put it to any hard vigerous work so i think one of those new celeron D's with the 256K cache would suit me just fine. but i also think how nice it would be to have the 1MB cache too. now if i decide to sell it, i figure most people around here won't know/care what the difference between a celeron and a P4 is. I've priced around and the cheapest I can get a 2.8 D is about $110 and for the P4 2.4A 1MB cache is $125.

so what do ya'll recommend? and if you know of any cheaper prices in the US (online) please post them too. i think those prices above came from newegg.

thanks.

I would go for the P4 2.4Ghz. Butm it all depends on the socket and board. If the board supports a fater bus and ram speed I would get that board and processot. Why not get a good amd. :)

I'd go with the P4 myself. I had one of the first celerons and never liked it.

well i have two boards and they are both soyo p4i865 boards so its intel only. my main computer i do use amd.

both boards supports 800Mhz bus speeds and the prescott core and i already have 512MB ddr400 for it.

one board was made in 2003 and the other one in 2004.

also my other thought was that if i was going to sell it that if they didn't know much about computers then they would want a faster cpu so the 2.8 would be more appealing.

I have a little history with both, but imho, AMD gives you more bang for your buck.

well i can't gripe cause both of the mobo's were free after rebate so i had to go with intel.

well went to newegg today and price had dropped down to $119 with free shipping on the p4 so i went with it.

"so i've narrowed it down to 2 choices: celeron D 2.8Ghz or a P4 2.4Ghz with 1MB cache."

If these are your choices, and fit your budget, P4 all the way. Screw the .4Ghz difference.
