I have long been an admirer of Norton 2003 Firewall because of its siplicity and reliablity. Lately I installed McAfee Personal Firewall Plus 5.0.xx. Really the same in terms of simplicity, but better in terms of easily accessible infor about blocks the software makes.
I agree Sygate and TPF are fantastic, but somehow the overabundance of info is difficult to digest. McAfee and Norton seem to relieve overextended people of too much analysis. Still interested in trying NIS 2005 when it is possible, but for now, me thinks McAfee PF Plus is pretty darn good. What say You? |
I am still using Windows Firewall and I know that I should switch to a 3rd party firewall as soon as possible ... block Outbound connections.
I still believe that Norton products are very much bloated and they will have to work really hard to make it more efficient and light. McAfee products are not that bloated but I think they are getting there. I am really a novice at rating Firewalls so what I do is I test the Firewall using the links in this thread: http://www.betaone.net/index.php?showtopic=31026. That's how I satisfy with the Firewall I have. I would also be interested in knowing new generation Firewalls that are efficient and taking less resources. |
Hi,
Unfortunately I believe a few are thinking of Norton products of a couple years back. Here's a review from PC Mag. Quote:
