I have just encountered a problem with my display after installing my integrated XP Home with SP2 and would like to help in trying to identify what's going on please.

Ok, I am running XP Home with SP2 and my display card is the NVIDIA based INNOVISION Inno3D GeForce FX5200 AGP card. Prior to installing the integrated XP/SP2 cd, I had previously updated XP with the SP2 network install file of around 266MB. The install went fine and I had no problems with my computer and in particular, my display.

I then formatted and installed my successfully SP2 integrated copy of XP Home without any problems. The installed display driver was from Microsoft and, at this point, I always go into the display properties to check the driver etc and still had no problems. Then, as usual, I always install the latest display driver from the manufacturer. Upon rebooting back to the desktop, my screen went 'black' a couple of times whilst loading up any programs that were needed and the NVIDIA icon appeared in the SYSTRAY. (this never happened after installing SP2 separately).

Also, when I right-click the icon. my display goes 'black' and once in the display properties, if I choose 'advanced', the screen again goes 'black', and then when I choose the GeForce tab, it again goes 'black'.

I have also tried diferent refresh refresh rates for my Philips LCD monitor but this did no good.

I've rolled back the driver which did no good, I also reinstalled XP which was a waste of time. I'm afraid this is driving me nuts, especially when I've been using the card for around the best part of a year without problems and this has just started since installing the integrated XP Home version.

All of the above happen everytime I do them. Apart from chucking my display card out of the window, has anyone got any ideas on what is going on?

Might be a corrupt driver, I'd download it again and see what happens.

Even though I already had the latest driver, I downloaded it again, but after uninstalling the existing driver and reinstalling the newly downloaded driver, it was just the same.

I normally use NVIDIA cards and Idon't understand why this is happening but I'm thinking of buying the ATI 9200 AGP x8 256MB DDR RAM just to get over this problem.

Any thoughts on this ATI card?

I get the same thing, every time i try to alter my display properties the screen blanks for a second or 2. It happens as soon as i enter the advanced display applet controlls and just after i apply the settings, which is understandable. Wich drivers did you install? the Innovision Nvidia drivers or just the Nvidia drivers?

My card was made by Asus and their drivers are crap, the nVidia drivers are much more stable.

My card is also made by Asus :)

I tried there drivers one time and this was not a good idea........:(

Now I just use the Nvidia drivers.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my post. :)

I used both the Innovision drivers which are really from NVIDIA but just have their name on the file and also in display properties, and also the drivers direct from the NVIDIA website. but the problem was there with both.

I know that when you change the resolution or refresh rate and apply the change, the screen does go black and I accept that this is normal with any display card, but prior to installing XP with SP2 integrated, I had never seen the problems that I've described in my first post, even after I installed SP2 on top of XP Home.

I'v'e reinstalled XP many times prior to SP2 being released and each time after install had completed, I'd go straight to my back-up drive and install the latest drivers from Innovision or NVIDIA and never got the problems I've described in my post, so I just don't understand why it's happening now.

The problems described have only started since installing XP with SP2 slipped.

I know it's a relatively minor problem, but it's something that I don't like putting up with, especially as they have never happened before, so I'm now seriously thinking of trying out the ATI 9200 AGPx8, 256MB DDR card.

the problem or the new feature came with the latest release of Nvidia drivers or the 2 last drivers update :)

This has nothing to do with the SP2 for me.

I'm running a GeForce Ultra 5700 with the latest drivers and no problems so far. You might check Nvidia's site to see if there is any known problems with your card and SP2.

That's exactly what I'm talking about Vinnie ......... I also had no problems with my latest FX5200 card or any of my other NVIDIA cards, even when I updated to SP2 over XP, but my problems started after I installed XP with slipped SP2.

I'm not saying that SP2 has anything to do with this but it's when my particular problems started.
