Does anybody know how I could remove this codec from my Windows XP installation ? I think that some program installed it and set it as the default mpeg1/2 codec, so now even the Windows Media Player is using this codec when playing an mpeg2 file, which is horrible because it's *slow* and it doesn't retain the correct aspect ratio of the picture. Besides that, all the color/contrast controls in Windows Media Player are disabled when using this codec, so there're enough reasons to go back to the standard WinXP codec :) The question is: how do I get rid of the Mediamatics codec? I tried to locate the responsible DLLs into c:\windows\system32 but no luck :(
Please help me if you know how to revert things back to normal...
Thanks.

P.S: Mediamatics developes a DVD player called "DVD Express" but according to their site they don't offer customer support because they only sell their products to OEMs.

Have you checked your Add/Remove Program section in your control panel. I had a similiar problem when I installed some unnecessary codecs from a big codec package. Look to see if you have any codecs installed in there or any codec package.

Yes i tried to uninstall everything that could someway be related to that codec, including the Nimo Codec Pack, but the DVD Express codec is still there... it's a nightmare! I really don't understand why Microsoft didn't include an option in Media Player to restore the default audio/video codecs!

I am lucky I took a snapshot of my system folders..
before installing new codecs..
nimo pack is one of the worst.. it cannibalised all your codes..
