hi everyone
i have recently updated my win xp pro to sp2, and it all went fine, and it all loaded up again perfectly. however, when the computer was on and running, i was just doing something and because the pc got a bit slow and froze, i was stupid and decided to press the power off button without shutting down. and now whenever i load up the pc, the options come up where i can select safe mode, last best config. ,etc, etc. However, i've tried all of them and win xp begins to load, but then u get a flash of a blue screen with some writin on it (cant tell cuz the flash is too quick) and then the pc restarts. it happens with all options. can anyone give me advice on what i can do? will the win xp pro cd be of any help in repairing the pc, cuz the system restore feature obviously isnt working when i selected it from startup. any tips? the last resort will be to format the pc again, but i dont wanna really lose all my photos. thanks |
You can boot from your windows CD and choose repair ;)
After that, run chkdsk /f Maybe this will works and repair your windows installation. |
If Bads idea dosen't work try ERD Commander, After you get ERD all you would have to do is use the Restore.

have just used the windows xp pro cd (sp2 integrated) and run chkdsk with the /? option, and it doesnt have the /f option listed. i tried chkdsk /f and it tells me the /f paramtere isnt even recognised. thats wierd cuz microsofts online help says u can use /f if this dont work, then will have to use erd commander. hopefully will have better luck with that. just a shame tho, cuz chkdsk had run and informed me there are errors on the drive, but i cant fix em cuz its not allowing me to use /f |
ahaa
i think i might have it. its the shitty documentation that microsoft has given. i think i might hav to use /p with chdsk. this corrects any errors. just managed to find a document on their website that states this. it doesnt say it at all in the chkdsk help. |
You can run chkdsk with /p or /r for revovery ;)
|
Damn it. Keep betting me bads. ;)
