Sp2 will not install with Alcohol or Daemon Tools on your system, when you attempt to install SP2 you will get and atapi.sys error or lock. If you have either installed, un-install both before you attempt to install SP2.

I had no problem installing sp2 with Alcohol installt :)
|
me neither
I did have to skip the atapi.sys file once, though |
I have Alcohol installed and SP2 installed without a hitch. Runs great!! Only problem I had was with DrDivx and that was solved very easily.

You can in stall sp2 with both of them installed you just need to disable them (untick the start up option and disable the virtual drives) and reboot to unload the dll and sys files Once you do that you can install sp2 without problems =) Sony |
This is for people that run into the problem, It is a known and acknowledged problem by the developers of these applications, if it didn't affect you then good, it wasn't for you, just the people it did.

Yeap three of my computers did not have this problem. But one did.
All four had Daemon Tools installed and running on start up. So yes the Virtual Drives were in place. Three out of four SP2 installed without a hitch and no errors. But on the fourth I got the above know bug. So guess it is just random or some other software or settings that is effecting it as well. cya, Will I doubt it is hardware seeing three of them have all the same hardware, including the one that failded with the error. But yes it is a know issue and has been for a very long time. Pre Beta stage believe it not. ;) Anyways its not a bug it Windows XP SP2. It is a bug in Alchol and Daeomon Tools and a few other not so popular applications. The new memory system comes into mind. ;) |
