i have a legal XP pro and therefore obviously a legal key.

can i use that key on Devilsown so as not to need activation, i change and test new devices on a regular basis and believe that i can only change a certain number of devices before i need to reactivate?

apologies if this is not a correct question for this forum, if so will the mods please delete or move this post

thanks

tony

If you have a legal pro version and a legal key and you use it in the Devil's own i am pretty sure it isnt going to work, devils own is a corp version, no need for activation, but it needs a corp keey to remain that way. If your version of pro that you have is corp and you have a corp key then it would work; but why would you install Devils Own if you have a "real. valid" corp version?

No, your "pro" key will only work on a professional version. The other one you mention is a "corporate" version requireing a corp key.

If your hardware configuration changes significantly it will want to be re-activated but if your only testing you wouldn't need to re-activate it because you still get the 30 day grace period. If your going to keep those changes then yes, you will have to re-activate, most likely by phone because you have already activated your system with another configuration.

I don't see why you would want to install DO also - DO is not final, it is a beta version of pro with stuff added on the aftermarket - So there for is garbage compaired to a legal version of pro.

thanks all for that, thats about what i thought, did not know about the 30 day thing and new hardware

i honestly do not understand the differences between, pro, corp etc.

my legal version was bought from a computer shop, pro???

is corp one where a company insalls the same disc on many computers and pays a licence fee for each install?

It basically comes with what I have had in differences between the two - Right now I am running Windows XP MSDN Pro and not had one prob with it. With DO I had nothing but errors, lockups, warnings, and files can not be found - There for leading me to believe that it is not final but is in fact a beta copy. :D

Tony, yes you are correct.
The "corp" os for corporate use, where we use 1 CD to install on X numbers of computers, using 1 key.

We are charged for the number of reported licences used, and since some of the computers are strictly used in an offline environment
they become activated by the files on the CD and the key used.
No need to call MS, or go online.

@Leech
Then I guess *you* had a bad copy of DO, probably burnt at >4x known to cause those probs.
I and many others, have compared DO with the legit corp ( VLK ), and we find 0 ( zero ) differences
in files, dates, CRC, hash, MD5... whatever :)
And I know it has been used in some companys, when they did not find the legit CD, so they used DO and the legit key.

That very well could be except for I don't burn at 4X .. Anyway - The one I have now works perfect.

I read that you can make all the changes you want, just keep a copy of WPA.DBL and always overwrite the new one with the original after each hardware change - that is the file that MS reads to determine activation or re-activation
