Hi Guys,
I got a Invision Power Board installed in my desktop. (http://localhost/forums/index.php?act=idx) I would like to move this board to another computer (my laptop) after installing mysql and Apache over there. I hope I won't need to install Invision Power Board from scratch and spend time creating all those categories and subforums. Basically, I would like to see the forum as it is, in the laptop. :) Can you please advice me a good way to do this? Thank you, McoreD |
Sure simply install mysql and apache on your laptop like you said. Dont forget php. :P
First you need to export the mysql database for your forums on your desktop computer. I use phpmyadmin. You can also export via IPB btw. :) Not sure what version your running but in 1.3.1 login to the admin center and open SQL Management. Then choose mysql backup. Just make sure "Skip non essential data?" is set to no. You want everything. And copy all the files to your lab top and the backuped mysql database and now you need to import it. Again using phpmyadmin. On your lab top of course. If you dont know how to do all this stuff just allow me access and I will do it for you. If you wish I mean. Or I will explain in depth if you wish to try yourself. Now, of course on your lab top for mysql make sure its the same database name, user, and pw. All info needs to be the same. Or of course you would need to edit the config.php for IPB and the mysql config if not. So I highly recommend you use all the same information. Then once you do all of that then just go to http://localhost/forums/index.php?act=idx on your lab top and everything should be good to go. Should be excatly the same as your desktop now. |
Thanks very much for the guide Will. :)
You understood exactly what I needed. I also tried http://192.168.0.2/phpMyAdmin-2.5.7-pl1/ and I was able to backup the database successfully. However I had trouble restoring it to an empty database with the same name. So... I installed MySQL and Apache. Configured PHP. Copied the \forums\ folder to DocumentRoot. Created a database with the same name (uwaforum). Replaced the database folder in Laptop\mysql\bin\Data\uwaforum by the folder in Desktop\mysql\bin\Data\uwaforum Everything worked fine. :) Cheers, McoreD |
Yeap thats what I ment. :)
Yeap. Was hoping it wold work since I never had the reason to do itmyself. After all as long as its the same name dont see why it would not as long as you have the msyql database. Take Care, Will |
