For Sale: 120 Gig Hdd
Hey guys
I don't know how many of you will actually really want this. I have a 120 gig HDD that i wanna get rid of. It works 100%. its just too noisy to have in a home PC. I think it would work great in a server. I swear ( scouts honour) that there is NOTHING wrong with this drive. Like i said, its just pretty noisy for a home PC. Its about 3 months old, so don't worry about it crashing. If theres anyone who'd wanna swap this one, for a more quiet one, it would be great. 120 gigs for 120 gigs. Let me know Mo |

i did not do that.
But you know what happened last night? i partitioned it so that i can have 10 gigs for linux and the rest for windows, and once i partitioned it, the windows partition was VERY quiet. never heard it. but of course, the dual boot wuth suse 9.1 and windows did not work. AGAIN. so i partitioned it back to the full 120 and its sort of noisy again. could it just be that that section is sort of faulty or something? i'm gonna try to install suse 9.1 on another 20 gig hdd, and see what happens with the dual boot system then. regards, Mo |
MO, you never did say what brand or model this hd is. I have only used Seagate (SATA) Maxtor (SATA and ATA) and Fujitsu (ATA). The only drive that went south on me that I threw out was a Fujitsu. I never had a drive that presented a noise issue. Most noise problems here have been case fans and some really awful power supplies. Scratching my head.
Take the sucker back under warranty and get a new one. That is the best solution. |
Its maxtor.
it works 100%. just reads loud. thats all. pisses me off. but if anyone is interrested, please give me a shout. |
*MO* Have you tried AMset.exe It's on the Maxblast 3 cd via powermax
Maxtor's Acoustic management utility... usually by default their hdd is set to medium...[attachmentid=1246] |
