For some time, I've had trouble with MS Media Player playing DVD files (VOB's, DVD's etc.) Works ok for mp3 and wav files.

This has happened on 2 of my 3 pc's and I can't figure why. A year ago or so I would install a codec pack and it would be fixed. i figured I didn't need to do that anymore.

I've been using Power DVD which works great. Any tips on why this is happening?

Open up windows media player and go to options and the dvd tab. If you dont have the dvd tab then add this to the registry to unlock it. Its suppose to be a pay for feature. ;)

Anyways then click the Advanced button and tell me what you see.

It should be AC3.

BTW try doing this with the video open.

If not you need to get AC3 which you can download from here:

Interesting, War. On my main pc with no sound, the DVD tab is there. Under advanced I checked SPDIF and the sound started. On another of my pc's (a laptop) that has sound when running a DVD with MS Media Player, there is an intervideo menu called up when I go to DVD/Advanced. Just checked my other desktop and it has the same intervideo menu under DVD/Advanced and the sound seems to work. I was mistaken when I said 2 out of 3 didn't work. So, still some things to figure out, but you got me on track. Thanks.
