Alrighty, heres the setup I have 2 desktop computers and 1 notebook. The backbone of the network lies in the linksys wireless router that i have. Desktop #1 has (2) NIC Cards one with the cable modem in it and one to the router. The notebook and other desktop are wireless! Now I know I could plug the modem into the WAN port, but that would be way to easy! So How could I fix this up so that this would work? I'm just curious, I was thinking about stopping the DHCP server on the router and setting up one on the wired desktop to give IPs to the rest! Is this the only solution or should I use internet connection sharing? Just wondering in advance!

Sincerely,
~PCTech

I think the best way would be thru internet connection sharing, i have had varied sucess with this option. but don't take my word for it i'm more of a unix admin  give it a go, but why not just take the easy option? hell i would (less of a headache in the long run)

simplest way would be:

1. Plug cable modem into router
2. Connect one of the desktops directly to router
3. Get/ use wirelss pci card for other desktop; connect that pc wirelessly to the router/internet
4. connect laptop wirelessly, as you have been

this is the recommended, and easiest way to make it work..dont bother enableing internet connection sharing; its always been a pain in the donkey to make work properly, especially with the SP2's that have been released...Why complicate things???

Yeap I agree with wase. Just make sure DCHP is set to automatic. hehe I always forget for some damn reason. Oh and I just use my router. But I have an all in one. :)

So its really up to you. I normally just use the router but if its causing problems or just slow as hell for some reason then yea just run it on the wired comp. and maybe dns too. I'm currently running dns on my main pc because the router dns serivce is slow or just completely dies every few days. Not sure why.
