I have a machine that is giving me the following error: "A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error code 0x80004005."
This machine worked correctly until I changed the domain the machine attached to and rebooted. I know that there is a similar issue with XP SP1 and that MS offers a replacement file, but that file doesn't work with original XP Corp (real corp key). Anyone have any ideas short of wiping and reloading the machine? |
I had this problem (on a .net install) a while back and wound up doing the windows mantra: R&R
(reformat&reinstall). I never found out why. Zo |
It's a problem with your registry. Something does not add up in it. I would suggest reverting back to a backup of the registry when you know it worked.

well, at long last, I have finally got back to trying System Restore on my screwed up machine. And miracle upon miracles, it works! After a horrid experience with system restore during beta testing, I never expected to try it again.
thanks for the comments/suggestions. |
I had this screen in the past,
This screen is when you try to boot system for the first time after patching it  If you don't patch it in the good order, the program can't verify the registration number. |
Yes.. System Restore works pretty good. I've seen it restore a machine infected with a good virus returned to normal.
