Microsoft has released a technical article detailing planned DVD writing support in Windows codename "Longhorn". Longhorn will natively support writing to UDF filesystems, and will feature Mt. Rainier support. This will enable users to save data to rewritable DVD media as if it was an ordinary removable drive. CD writing support in Longhorn will not be changed - it will still be neccessary to plan/pre-author the layout of the CD, before burning.
