THE GOVERNMENT of Australia is cracking down on portable porn being delivered to kiddies with 3G phones.
Under a new law, the Australian Communication Authority (ACA) will regulate access to content sent on such phones to restrict access by children to adult content. According to the Sydney Morning Herald (www.smh.com.au) telcos and content providers wanting to provide adult services will only be able to do so on specific phone numbers set by the ACA. The new access controls will cover sexy text messages and other audiovisual content with MA or R ratings. X rated content will be banned from the premium mobile phone services. The controls follow the release of a government review of the regulation of content delivered to 3G phones. However, many wonder how the ACA expects to enforce the tough new rules. A recent government review found that filtering devices to restrict access to adult material on mobile phones were possible, it would be almost impossible make them compulsory, it appears.
