Hello everyone,

I just bought a new DVD drive (not a dvd burner) for my pc. My question is simple. Can I somehow record to data from a DVD onto my hard drive and view it later with a DVD emulator? Our local library system allows us to borrow DVD's for free and I was wondering if I could somehow save them for later viewing. I saw a program called Virtual CD. Is that what I would use? I would really like to save the DVD data and burn it on a cd-rom if possible and view it with an emulator. Is that possible? Thanks!

Hell yes. Either get "dvd copy plus" or" vcd galaxy rip pack". I have both on my server if your interested. You have to do more than just rip the dvd and it might take up to 10 gigs of h/d space tp process. But when your done . Youll have 1 or two 650 or 700mb files and you can just delete the rest. Ive been experimenting with different programs. If you want to talk I am James on msn messenger

if you wanna back up dvds, then rip them with DVDx... I think it's the best out there right now.

I'd rip some of my DVD's but I'll WILL run out of hard drive space. I'll need 1TB drive soon! :D

Thats why I got another 60gig drive

Why not just convert them to divx and then burn them to CD? Saves you the money of buying the TB drive :D

I decided to use SmartRipper, DVD2AVI, and TMPGEnc for making the backups of my movies.

One question though: Is there a simple way to rejoin mpegs? I think I'll put about 1 hour of the movie on each cd and burn them. Then when I want to play them I'll copy/paste them to my hard drive and play them. Ok, I know I could just play one file and then start up the other after the first one is done, but is it possible to rejoin 2 or more mpegs once they're back on my hard drive?

Thanks for all the replies in the thread. I learned a lot.
