Is there any way to get WMP 10 beta to install on Windows Server SP1
I tried extracting the files and using compatability mode I have looked through the infs as well but can't find anything I can modify Thanks Robin B) |
I'm doing a similar thing - trying to get it to install on Longhorn 4053. After using Windows XP compatibility mode the installations seemed to go OK, except WMP was not updated :(
Another thing you might find useful... If you try right clicking on the inf files and clicking install, some of them will claim they have "not been certified to install on this platform" (or someting like that). Changing the class-guid (or whatever it's called) will make them install OK (at least it seems like they are copying files). I have also tried replacing the main EXE and a few DLL's manually. So far I've succeeded in screwing up my existing install (complains the version is unexpected). |
i have read this is ALPHA code, so I am surprised it even works on my XP machine!!

I have found a very simple workaround for this. It works on Windows Longhorn, and is likely to work on Windows 2003 server.
After extracting the setup archive and installing all the .inf's manually, go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer \Setup\Installed Versions", and set all entries to "00 00 0A 00 91 0D 00 00". This will fix the "wrong version" bug. Oh, and this will also work on Windows XP SP2. |
Hmm I have installed wmp10 on XP Sp2 with no problem at all. No need to have anything changed....
