I have the latest SP2 build.
My problem is that I have an older SP2 which was installed as part of a slipstreamed XP Pro installation. When I try to install the new SP2 it tells me that I have to remove my older one!! The problem is that I can't uninstall the old SP2. Is there a way to install the new SP2 build in place of the old slipstreamed one ?? Regards italiano :) |

I'd be interested too. Ran into same thing, just did a clean install. Would be helpful to know, because I don't like to update so slipped new one too.

The only way to update the build with a newer build is to slipstream that build too.
I have a slipstreaming tool which makes it easy. Can send you it if I can find it PM me if you want it ;) |
This will interest some
go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\ and Delete the Keys CSDBuild and CSDVersion Then it will update a slipped install. And great thing is it doesn't save all the BS to uninstall. |
I just update in a virtual machine from the SP1 and I don't have to register it again ;)

HotRod comes through yet again!
After I pm'ed you yesterday, I ran into the same problem, and your above remedy works fine. Just don't reboot after you delete those keys. Run the sp 1st. |
Or just go to the directory and run uninstaller. Dont remember the directory since i dont have it installed atm. But it worked for 2120 and rc1, and a few betas so sure 2126 would work too.

Will, you mean there is an uninstall for a slipped cd install? If you remember where it is that would be another good thing to know.

Yea there should be. Like an uninstall.exe or uninstall.bat I think. Pretty sure .bat. Runs a few commands and then runs uninstall.exe.
I'm pretty damn sure. I did it twice before my hard drive crashed last month. One was intergrated and one was not and both had the uninstall files. I got the directory from some other forum. I looked today but cant find it. Dont have a clue where eithert. Not a ordiany place. I know for a fact I did it that way because I reember it was not listed in Add / Remove Programs. |
