just a simple question
if you only had those 2 choices, which one would you prefer?

PCTech 16th Apr 04 11:53 AM

I would prefer Cable internet as here ADSL isn't fast at all its only 1.5mb at the fastest and to me I can pay 40$ and get a little more than 2 times the speed! however if you are on a budget then I suppose the 29.95 DSL package is for you! I still prefer cable!

I got the same reason as PCTech. The max. ADSL speed over here is 1.5 Mbps while for Cable you can get uncapped i.e 8 Mbps.

You guys are making me drool. As of now cable and DSL are the same speed at 1.5 Mbps in the area that I live, so I'm going with DSL.

According to my textbooks... the technical bandwidth barrier for ADSL is 8Mbps... and with VDSL coming around the corner DSL may prove to be a worthy opponent.

Cable is very nice, a little weak in the info safety and bandwidth allocation. I don't know really though I'm going to have to think about what ISP I want in the future, ie college grad. Hopefully VDSL will have made a appearance by then. 24Mb/s...... If you live downtown or in a wired apartment. :) Though I'm not going to choose where I live depending on where I can get the most bandwidth..

Hell , I'll be satisfied with ADSL if and when the big greedy telco's ever decide to provide it to our township.

DoG 16th Apr 04 02:37 PM

I would love cable but the fastest connection round here is the 512 ADSL, houses 400 yards away have cable up to 2Mb\s

I haven't used DSL but the cable connection I have is good enough for me not to wonder.

I'm on cable modem since one year now and I really like it ;)

Before,

I was only in a 56k modem line :(

I'm trying Sympatico cable on trial. They say they increased the speed from 1.5 to 3.0 in my neighborhood for the regular hi-speed service. But, I'm still getting an actual rate of 0.7 to 0.9. A tech told me the lines in my neighborhood wouldn't support 3.0. he's right

My rogers cable isp service gives me 2.3 mb/s.
