SOURCES THAT RECKON TO KNOW, claim Intel's 2.80GHz Pentium 4 part may not see the light of day because Windows doesn't like it.
Reports claimed that the speed of the chip causes Windows 2000 "to crash and burn."

While Windows XP doesn't like the speed of the processor, not one little bit.

And it's not just Intel chips too, the claim continues. Athlon processors at high speeds are experiencing problems as well.

We are contacting the chip companies to get their view on this, if they have a view, that is.

Our source claims, too, that slower P4s combined with faster chipsets ? like the 845G and later throw up similar problems.

And, rather than have Microsoft address the problem head-on, Intel is prepared to allow the 2.8 Gig part to slip quietly from the limelight, the source claimed.

This, however, would seem to be extremely unlikely to us because its future depends on scaling the Pentium 4 to 2.8GHz and higher. AMD has similar ambitious plans.

Intel was said to be keen to ship the 2.8GHz part early to help build some interest in the flagging market, but those plans may now have lumbered into an unseasonal iceberg.

While our source points hesitantly to potential problems with the speed at which I/O packets fly at the operating system, there is a thread over at MadOnion which also points to higher voltages produced in the core causing the chip to fall over.

"There is a growing database of evidence of P4 CPUs dying from high voltage to the core,"says one poster on the forum here.

"Anything over the Intel spec of 1.75 MAX is dangerous," the poster warns overclockers. In this case, the overclockers may include Intel itself. [/quote:da9eede9fb]

so the software companies are not producing good stuff to acomodate the fast rate of new hardware on the market.
kinda scarely to see such fast processors. ever wonder what is the speed like in 10yrs time??
like a.......Zentium 20G

yea and the os will still sucks

every damn computer sucks because the software sucks

sick and tired of computers going slow and fucking up all the time

Faster the better as for them messing up i must say i rarely have box or software problems and if i do its simple to sort out, guess its down to what you do and don't know in the aid of keeping it running smooth as i do

I mean just stupid stuff.
Like I right clicked on a movie and choose prperties right. Well it took 2 hours to load. yea i waited cause i wanted to see computer is going fine now and nothing happened didnt have to restart or nothing...just pisses me off when shit like that happens

if only they came up with simple OS or software...
the OSes are having way too much instructions sets and codes, threads and etc...all the shit stuff....

if only someone could come up with a better instruction codes or something to speed things up.
