Does anyone know what program to use to create an image of the disc so it will boot up to a dvdr and re- image the disc with no problems. i thought of ghost but am not sure of the use yet. In the past I used Plextor CDRes-Q. however, it does not deal with NTFS partitions or Linux drives.
Any help will be appriciated, I an a Dunce on Imaging my box( ask me how to fix win 9x problems and some xp and then I could understand and help) Thanks! ironleg1963  |
I use norton ghost.
I would like to try Acronis's back up sw too. Norton seems to put too much into ur putter when installing. Try Acronis... GO BACK. |
Acronis TrueImage......the only program that creates reliable images when used under windows while working on your computer.
ATM,it can't burn directly to dvd, unlike Norton Ghost.....but you can burn it after the image is created with your favorite burning software...the image will be recognised when started from dvd..:) |
Hi,
Personaly I am a fan of Ghost. True you can't burn it directly to a CD or DVD, but it's fast. I used PowerQuest software to but it's way way slower. I never used the Acronis TrueImage software, but what I've seen from there other creations it must be good too. Don't forget to keep the software with the image, or better yet, create a bootable CD/DVD with the restore software. This way your up and running again in no time. |

And as found by practical tests BootIt NG is way faster than Ghost...
(Just noted, my tests [http://betaone.net/index.php?showtopic=30176&hl=] aren't finished yet so I stick to Ghost. However BootIt NG is free if using it only for imaging partitions and, note this, make backups of the partition table!) |
ironleg1963 your far better using Acronis Trueimage7 it can also make a hidden secure partition to store images on any hard drive of your choice and enable F11 keypress at bootup to restore your system

I'm working with powerquest V2I and I like it ;)
I just restore a backup to a new HD this morning  |
Go with Bads. PowerQuest 7 aka V2i is fast and so far very reliable.
I do use Ghost 2003 on a Sony R505 laptop that for curious reasons has some sort of problem with Power Quest. But, I don't burn to CD/DVD. I burn to another partition. |
thanks for the advice!
