Hi all, Was wondering if you had this dilema what would you do and how...
Point of refrence: My comp 's power was lost while i was adjusting cmos values in bios... After waiting an hour or so (going out the door when it happened) restared, went to my share spot to add sum files for Holi1 take2... Low and behold all .chk files instead of my data. I try'd lost & found and a couple acronis proggies but they don't fit my need atm. guessing i would need something to open / view convert those pesky .chk files There's around 9657 files ranging from 32kb to 1000mb's. Specs of the box if needed: an AMD 1333mhZ, 384 pc133 cas2, 3 maxtor drives 20, 80 & 120GB's, 8X DVD/RW, gf2, blah blah, blah. dually boot win98/XPpro Devil's Own hybrid sp2.beta. The OS'es are all intact and other than the .chk files i see no obvious damage.... DrWatson and his buddies say the same... 72GB's of share toy's... examples: .rars, .iso's, .zip's, avi's, bin/cue's etc. etc... They have been converted to .chk files (9600 plus) Any ideas / what programs /editors to use to get the data converted bak if possible would greatly be appreciated. tia jiz. Side note... i been checking google and other sorts without specific help so far. Figuring sum1 here "Must've had this happen to them before"... greetz, peace out <sniff> jiz :cry: feel like :death: over it... :jizac: :mad2: that my stuff got :nuke: |
I suppose it happened when you were using your Win98 O/S....
The Only thing that I can suggest is a System Restore...If that was enabled...... Will be pretty impossible to retreive any of the files....But could be wrong..... Did you have an index of the Stuff...??? With file sizes.... Maybe you could change the attributes of the biggest files to Iso's Bin's If you knew the approximate file sizes....?? |
I think these files are lost forever :(
|
@Grzyb...
Correct, restore not on as well. Thank's for reply. @ bads very nice / helpful! :lol: btw, <snip> not relevant side note: There must be a way to convert .chk to original extention. At least i would like to beleive that ;) I'll wait for the super :geek: 's to join in here... |
I used to run Win98/WinXP as a dual boot....Until I lost 160gb's worth of Data a couple of years back......
Was the Win98 on Fat32 File system as well??? Norton told me there was a problem..So I ran Diskdoctor in 98...... It then proceded to "repair" my files and promptly reorganised my cluster size to 4kb from 16kb...... All I had left at the end was 160gb's of garbage...... Don'r run a dual 98/WinXP now......Have them on separate rigs..... |
