its been to long since i've used win98 to get on the net.

below is my setup.

cable modem > router --
1 > computer1 (my computer with win98)
2 > computer2 (with xp pro)
3 > laptop with xp home( not connected all the time).

now on the router it shows mine being on, but i can't get on the net.

i figure it is something i don't have setup yet since it is a fresh install but i have no idea what it might be.

( i don't care about being able to share files between the computer, i just need access to the net until i get my new case).

can someone help me? thanks.

More info. Um so u want to use DHCP or what? Yea me either, have not tried this type of setup with win98 in a long time but i'll see if i can help.

But anyways you just need to setup win98 to use dhcp and get its ip address from the router. Sould be 192.168.0.1 i believe and a Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0.

I agree that DHCP should be set up on the Win98 machine (adams73533 needs to be sure that DHCP is enabled within the router as well), but Bads is right about going to the website of the brand to which router adams73533 currently has and finding what IP address range his router uses as well as which Subnet Mask to use being I have seen different routers use different settings.
