I put in 2nd hard drive on my computer. It is recognized as drive F. I want to run sperate XP Pro from each hard drive. How do I install XP Pro on my second hard drive? I put the CD in and asked to install either as update or install. Doesn't seem right, should I be rebooting with CD in? Help appreciated, thanks. Just to make sure you know what I want to do. When I start computer I want the two choices of each OS on each hard drive.

Go ahead, run install (not update), you can do that either by booting from the CD or from within your existing XP install, make sure you tick advanced install which will give you the option later (after first reboot) to decide where to install your second XP. The multiboot option will automatically be added to your boot.ini file and at every reboot you will have the option to choose between your two XP versions.

i used ran 2 copies of XP on my machine... but i dont rely on the bootmenu for this to keep both of them separate entities. i use one for games and test some apps and the other as my work. i just choose which drive to boot using the bios since i dont play games that much. now i have 2 copies of server 2k3 running.

there is no way other than having the new depends on the old to have them both on the boot choice menu, otherwise you have to unplug the other hd and vise versa each time you try to move between oses. |
As far as I have found Each Install will perform Independant of the other
only the bootini file appears common, as long as it is installed on a different partition. I have 98SE + 3 XP installations at present , handy when for some reason one gets stuffed up , mind you it is a bit of a waste of space LOL. You can change the text in boot.ini to describe each installation. |
