Interesting news about this useful item over at Neowin. The website for Autopatcher is autopatcher.com/Index.htm
I haven't tried it yet, but anyway I go to Windows Update from time to time.

Well you could try reinstalling ie6 sp1...

BTW, do you get any error messages or total closing /crash?

Check your host file as well
( X:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\etc )
Do u have ANY entries in there... that refer to Microsoft or to Akamai? if so DELETE them, save & reboot... or try this one: ripped from **** ;)

Click Start menu, then click the Run icon.
In the small box that Opens, type the three letters "cmd"
(without quotes of course) then click the OK button.
In da command prompt window that just opened (black background / white text), {unless u changed the colors} :D type the following commands, pressing the ENTER key on your keyboard after each line:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll (you may not have this one... That's aight)
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll

Now type da word: exit and the window will close.

Now Reboot and try and Microsoft Windows Update again....

still crashes?

Verify that Internet Explorer is configured to use SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0. {advanced tab ie prop page}

or try unselecting "Check for server certificate revocation" while u are in the advanced tab under ie6 property page, reboot a couple a times or do a clean reeboooot not basic... Now open Internet Explorer and try the Windows Update site again. still crash?

then go here: /http://www.betaone.net/index.php?showtopic=30241, do some reading from the link (updatexp.com) i pointed bads to, hope it helps some robin, the least could happen is u pick up sum tips for future use, a very useful page.
