BetaONE is NOT a pic hosting site. Posting a picture in any section of BetaONE so you can link to the URL of the .jpg file is NOT ALLOWED and may cause you to be BANNED!

Why not just block the ability for remote image loading, or are crew members using this for themselves? I don't understand why you guys just don't shut it off instead of issuing a warning...

Isn't there a way to set up anti-leeching on images... .htaccess is the place for this info, no?

It should be able to be done... Just prevent images from leaving the site. This issue should then be resolved.

Then again, what do I know... :P

Rather than strictly enforcing this rule, it makes more sense if we handle each potential violation at our own discretion on a case-by-case basis.

If someone contributes to betaone, and makes a useful post others will enjoy, I see no major harm in linking to the attachment, or prefferably the post. We are talking about cases in which members post images of no real relevance to BetaONE, in places like the "Testing..." forum, for no other intention than exploiting our bandwidth to host them.

We don't want to get too restrictive, and there may be many legitimate reasons to link to content on BetaONE, with mutual benefits. The rule acts as a warning targetted at those wishing to abuse our hospitality. If in doubt, it is always reasonable to contact the crew before linking to attachments.

I agree!! However, I think instead of just a warning you should disable that person to upload attachments for 1 months time, or longer if necessary.

I believe it is the principle at stake here, not the violation of the rule. We are supposed to be honest and trustworthy members of this web forum and as such are expexcted to abide by the rules, whatever they may be. And as noted, there maybe legitimate reasons to link to betaONE so we don't want to disable this feature.

It should not be necessary to restrict members' PRIVILIDGES, but rather to exercise discression in the event of a violation; and a simple warning or reminder is not out of line to make sure everyone knows the rules.

If it were my website, I would not want to be hosting pics either...it can be rather bandwidth intensive...
