Hi Guys
I have an intel pro/dsl 3200 modem running on a p3 1ghz pc with 512mb ram. Every so often (too often) the download connection freezes (although the upload is fine). Everything seems to look connected still, although i cannot receive anything. the only way to renew the connection is to reboot, or remove and reinstall the modem. it can happen at anytime, but it especially happens if i burn a cd, or play a video.
Can anyone please help.

Tried looking for the latest drivers for the thing?

Do you have any tweaks applied to your connection? What OS are you using?

rothma01 19th Jun 02 09:45 PM

I have tried with and without tweaks. I am using xp pro.

is it a usb, internal pci, or ethernet based modem?

rothma01 20th Jun 02 08:07 PM

it is a usb modem. I have no other usb devices installed

usb modem tend to have difficulties installing them.
i had it before, tried another modem, still the same.

conculsion was due to my poor phone line condition.

they probably only tested the lines outside that's coming to your house....so it might be the ones inside your place

Sephiroth 29th Jun 02 04:45 PM

i always had nothing but problems out of my usb modem, including things like you had above, i finally managed to get my isp to send me an ethernet based modem and i haven't had a problem since

rothma01 30th Jun 02 09:51 PM

Thanks for all the advise everyone.
There are no phone lines inside my house, my pc plugs straight into the main box.

I think the problem may be with BT, as they have asked me to retest, saying the problem is resolved. however it is not, although not so bad. I am appalled at the way it has been handled. I have been held on hold for a total of 47 hours, been addressed as Mrs in an email from BT, and am still expected to pay for the last three months crap service.

modems (regardless of type, pci, int, usb) are nightmare to a lot of people.

LOL...

Thank God for quick & cheap phone support over here :P I've had DSL for over a year now and had two downtime days. Usually when I phone them, they have to check if they actually do have a DSL problem and then confirm what I already knew :D
